Shinya "Tobikan Judan" Aoki (Japanese: ιζ¨ηδΉ) (born May 9, 1983) is a Japanese mixed martial artist, grappler, and former police officer. Aoki is the current World Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts (WAMMA) Lightweight Champion, DREAM Lightweight Championship and Shooto Middleweight Champion. Aoki holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Yuki Nakai, as well as a black belt in judo. He works as an instructor at Paraestra Kasai, but represents the Paraestra Tokyo head-school when competing. He is best known for his excellent flexibility, often taking opponents by surprise and earning him the nickname "Tobikan Judan," meaning "master of flying submissions." As of 2008, Aoki, along with Deep champion Masakazu Imanari, and Sengoku champion Satoru Kitaoka have founded the "Nippon Top Team" as a group of elite Japanese grapplers competing in MMA. As well as his MMA credentials, Aoki has garnered several submission grappling accolades including two All Japan Jiu-Jitsu championships, a Japan Open Jiu-Jitsu championship, a Budo Open championship, and an ADCC Japan championship. Aoki is currently ranked as the #2 Lightweight fighter in the world by Sherdog and MMA Weekly.
This is the Highlights video of the Flying Submissions king: Shinya Aoki
A kneebar (technically known as a straight legbar) is a leglock which hyperextends the knee. The basic kneebar is performed similarly to an armbar by holding the opponent's leg in between the legs and arms so the opponent's kneecap points towards the body. By pushing the hips forward, the opponent's leg is straightened, and further leveraging hyperextends the knee. A variation of the kneebar is done similarly, but instead of holding the leg with the hands, the opponent's foot is pushed behind one armpit. By pushing the shoulder backwards and pushing the hips forward, a greater amount of force is applied to the knee, and the lock becomes much more difficult to escape.
This is one of the my favourite techniques, it is very fast and easy to do, when the leg is locked you only have one option: to tap.
The flying armbar is a version of the juji-gatame that is performed from a stand-up position. Without a gi, it is typically applied when the opponent has a collar tie. By tightly holding the opponent's neck and arm, the attacker puts one of his or their shins against the opponents midsection, and leans up on the opponent; at the same time, the attacker swings the leg on the same side as the opponent's collar tie over the opponents head, into the typical juji-gatame position. (With a gi, it can be performed without needing to hold the neck.) If improperly performed, this technique will cause the opponent to escape the hold and gain an advantageous position, even the option of slamming the attacker to the ground. The flying armbar is considered to be one of the most spectacular joint locks, but it is uncommon because of the risk of losing position.
The most famous flying arm bar video is this one, the flying arm bar that Rumina Sato did some years ago in a Vale Tudo fight:
When you do a perfect submission nobody can escape.
This is the second technique I uploaded to Youtube: The Flying Triangle
A Triangle choke (called Sankaku-Jime in judo) is a type of figure-fourchokehold which strangles the opponent by encircling the opponent's neck and one arm with the legs in a configuration similar to the shape of a triange. The technique is a type of lateral vascular restraint that constricts the blood flow from the carotid arteries to the brain.
The flying triangle choke has one special characteristic, you have to do it jumping, you need an explosive jump.
